Micro Mesh
We now carry Micro-Mesh for those of you that would like to maintain your pipes but do not
wish to invest in a buffer. The kit contains nine pads of the following grits; 1500, 1800, 2400,
3200, 3500, 4000, 6000, 8000, and 12,000. The foam backed 2" x 2" two-sided pads giving
you eight square inches of material for each grit. You can use these pads for both Acrylic
and Vulcanite stems. To keep it from loading up, Micro-Mesh is best used as a wet medium
with water (used with a mister). Also, you should remove all wax and oil from the surface.
The 1,500 grit Micro-Mesh is equal to 400 grit sandpaper where the 4,000 grit Micro-Mesh is
equal to 1,500 sand paper. You have to realize that Micro-Mesh is not magic. With oxidized
stems you must clean the oxidation off the stem before you begin the polishing process.
You have to inspect each process as you polish and clean the stem etc between grits. If
you find marks you need to go back one or two steps. With Vulcanite stems it is rare that you
would want to go any further than the 8,000 grit but with acrylic stems the 12,000 grit will
greatly enhance the sheen. You may find other uses for this great product. This kit should
last the average piper years.
